Rotten Egg Smell? Let's Get Rid of It.
Sulfur water is one of the most common problems with Southwest Florida wells, and it's where we do our best work. We test it, find the source, and fix it for good.
Signs You Have Sulfur Water
The smell — Rotten eggs or sulfur at the tap or in the shower. Often worst first thing in the morning or after you've been away.
Black stains — Dark gray or black stains in sinks, tubs and toilets, and black slime in the toilet tank.
Tarnish & corrosion — Silverware, faucets and copper turn dark fast.
Bad taste — Coffee, tea and ice taste off. Many families end up buying bottled water.
Where Is the Smell Coming From?
Smell from hot water only → Usually the water heater anode rod. Fix: anode rod change and tank flush.
Smell from hot and cold → Hydrogen sulfide in the well water. Fix: whole-house aeration or oxidizing filter.
Smell plus slime or sudden change → Sulfur/iron bacteria. Fix: testing, well disinfection, treatment if it returns.
You already have a system and it still stinks → Worn media, lost air charge, failed valve. Fix: service, re-bed, repair, or replace if not worth saving.
Quick check: run cold water only for a minute and smell it; then the same with hot. Tell us what you notice when you call.

Stinky Water FAQ
Why does my water smell like rotten eggs?
Almost always hydrogen sulfide. It's common in Southwest Florida wells. A water test tells us the source.
Why does only my hot water smell?
Usually the water heater anode rod. We change the anode and flush the tank. If the cold smells too, the well water needs treatment.
Is sulfur water dangerous?
At household levels it's usually a nuisance: stains, bad taste and tarnish. If the smell changes suddenly, get it tested.
Will a water softener fix the smell?
Usually not by itself. Sulfur needs aeration or an oxidizing filter, sometimes paired with a softener.
I already have a system and it still smells. Can you help?
Yes. We service, re-bed and repair existing systems, and we'll tell you straight if it's worth saving.
Do you offer a free well water test?
Yes.
